B. Everett Jordan Lake is a roughly 14,000-acre reservoir spread across Chatham County, just west of Apex and south of Chapel Hill. It is the biggest open water within easy reach of the Triangle, with wide main-channel stretches for opening up the throttle and quieter coves when you want to slow down and swim.

Wake, Durham and Granville Counties
Falls Lake is a long, narrow reservoir stretching northwest from Raleigh along the Neuse River. Its shape means more shoreline, more coves and generally a quieter ride than Jordan Lake, and it is the closest big water to north Raleigh, Wake Forest and Durham.

First time on the water
Squeeze the throttle to go, ease off to slow, lean into your turns. Most people are comfortable within a few minutes of leaving the dock.

Local knowledge
The Triangle is not a coastal region, which is exactly why Jordan Lake and Falls Lake matter so much here. Between them they hold tens of thousands of acres of open water within a short drive of Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Apex, Chapel Hill and Wake Forest.
Jordan Lake, out past Apex toward Pittsboro, is the bigger and more open of the two. Falls Lake starts at the northern edge of Raleigh and runs up toward Creedmoor, narrower and generally calmer.
For most riders the choice comes down to drive time. Coming from the west or south side of the Triangle, Jordan is usually closer. Coming from Raleigh proper or the north, Falls wins.

FAQ
North Carolina does not require a general boating license, but anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 must complete an approved boater education course before operating a vessel powered by 10 hp or more. Bring proof of completion if that applies to you.
State law sets 14 as the minimum age to operate a personal watercraft in North Carolina, with education requirements attached. Younger riders can ride as passengers. Our own rider and driver minimums are being finalized and will be listed here.

Jordan Lake is bigger and more open, which suits groups and riders who want room to move. Falls Lake is narrower with more coves and is usually calmer, and it is the shorter drive from Raleigh and Wake Forest.
